Thermocouples in protective covers of aluminum oxide (corundum) are widely used because they have high wear resistance and can be used to measure the temperature in environments containing abrasive particles. Ceramic covers are made of both gas-tight and non-gas-tight (porous) varieties of ceramics, which determines the scope of thermocouples. With the increase in the content of aluminum oxide (Al2O3), the strength characteristics of ceramics, thermal conductivity and maximum working temperature, chemical resistance increase, but the resistance to thermal shocks decreases.
